The energy revolution of the 21st Century is hardly beginning. What we can say for sure is that the transition from the petroleum to the post-petroleum era will be long and its course will be difficult to anticipate. That is why it is important to reduce simultaneously and drastically the profile of energetic demand and significantly replace fossil energy with non-polluting energy (including in the latter “clean” coal burning), and finally, sequestering a significant amount of greenhouse gases. The challenge requires carefully planned actions at Nations State level and effective coordination at international level.”
